CanoeingLynx and PartridgeWalleye Rising

Honoring the pride of the Northland!  We serve to highlight our communities with honest reporting as progress is dependent on facts.  The Northland

is rich with outdoor activities and beautiful landscapes found in few places around the world.  We respect the need to preserve our environment while

also allowing for the sustainable incomes and livelihoods of our residents.  Both are needed and possible. . .

Covid Money - Local

"We have received $114,760.33 in COVID Relief Funding (CRF).  We spent it on additional nursing time, additional chromebooks to be able to serve all K-12 students during times of distance/hybrid learning, additional cleaning and protective supplies, additional cleaning staff, and to keep a building sub for staffing purposes.

Since March of 2020, all students have received free lunch via the National Summer Food Service Program.  I'm fairly confident this applied to all districts, certainly the vast majority.  The program is currently approved through the end of this school year.

We received about $2,200 from the county, and we used that to create mobile workstations in the industrial arts room." John Engstrom, Carlton School

Essentia Health Financials

The Duluth News Tribune reported on May 21, 2020, "Essentia Health to lay off 900 due to COVID-19 financial strains"  Yes, they had higher liability costs but revenue and total assets had grown as well.  Whatever struggles they "had" were short-lived and they gained tremendously in 2022.
